Masson¢¥s "Vegetant Intravascular Hemangioendothelioma"

Abstract
Masson¢¥s "Vegetant Intravascular Hemangioendothelioma" is a peculiar vascular proliferative process, first described by Masson in 1923. Main histologic findings are the presence of papillary growth lined by hyperplastic endothelial cells supported by delicate fibrous stalks entirely confined within the vascular lumen. Masson¢¥s hemangioma was first described in Korea by Ahn et al.
Authors experienced a case of Masson¢¥s hemangioma in the palm of right hand in a 91 year old female who visited to the local clinic complaining of slightly painful and elevated nodular lesion in the palm for two weeks. Excision biopsy was done. The submitted specimen consisted of a well circumscribed brown nodular soft tissue, measuring 2 X 1. 5 X 1 cm. Cut surface represented microcystic structures with thick fibrous trabecular wall. Histologically, sections disclosed several dilated venous channels with intraluminal papillary infolding of hyperplastic endothelial cells with a core of fibrous connective tissue. Although the individual cells were round and a few endothelial cells were hyperchromatic, neither cellular pleomorphism nor mitosis was noted. No proliferating vascular channels were noted also. At the adjacent area of papillary structures several organizing thrombi and lymphocytic infiltration were seen.
In observing above case, authors thought that this is not a true neoplasm but a reparative process as other reports.
